Week 6Review!This week you will be learning about the best methods to becoming a great typist. You will start by taking a typing test so that we can track your progress. We will save your test results in your folder. You will also begin your typing lessons here in Dance Mat Typing. The Dance Mat Typing program is fun and you should practice at home to get better and better.

Week 6This week you will be creating an account on Edmodo. Edmodo is a website that offers a safe way for us to connect, work together, share materials, assignments, and the ability to save files and documents. It's free and you can access the site via apps, PCs, Macs, laptops, tablets, iPods, any device really!
This week I will share a Prezi presentation with you on the rules and guidelines for correct and safe use of Edmodo. We will discuss unacceptable behavior as well. You will read and agree to follow the students agreement terms given in an Edmodo post created by me. I truly look forward to us using this as an excellent learning and collaboration tool! Let's use it wisely. |
Second Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1
Today you will learn the essential skills which make keyboarding important. The keyboarding techniques shared will assist you in productivity, speed, and accuracy when typing. I will use a keyboarding skills resource to model proper typing techniques.
Each class period will be dedicated to keyboarding practice lessons on Typing Club. This class period you will repeat lessons 1-4 for 15 minutes. Practice makes great improvement! Week 2Today we will review the essential skills which make keyboarding important. The keyboarding techniques shared will assist you in productivity, speed, and accuracy when typing. I will use a the Howcast How to Type video to model proper typing techniques.
Today I will review the First in Math website and games. You will receive your login information and learn how games are played. Use alternate logins to play at the end of our class period. |
Week 3Your typing goal in 4th grade is to type at 30 WPM. Today your focus while completing typing lessons in to maintain an accuracy of at least 90% while improving on your WPM with each lesson accomplished. You will practice up to lessons 21 (twice each) for 15 minutes. Once complete play any of the typing lessons below for the next 15 minutes.
Typing Games Typer Shark Fun to Type E Learning for Kids Spare...Today you will use a word cloud generator by the name of Tagxedo to create an image of a word cloud that best represents you. Follow the directions given to create your world cloud. The image that you save will be used later in the year when we open Edmodo accounts.

Week 4Typing Made Easy Video
Do you ever feel like taking a short cut? There's normally a faster way to do just about anything. This rings true on the computer as well. Today you will continue to practice keyboarding strategies when using Typing Instructor, but I will also introduce shortcut key strokes (flipchart) on the keyboard. When possible use these keystrokes to add to your productivity.

Week 5Practice makes perfect, right? That's what I've learned! Today you will have the opportunity to practice some of the most frequently used short cuts in Microsoft Word. Open the file below to begin. All short cuts and directions are provided on the document. To save your work you will need to create a folder and we will top this class period off with keyboarding practice in Typing Instructor.

Week 6"Why do I need to keep practicing this anyhow?"
If you're wondering that right now, I will tell you. There is an article that describes how playing typing games correlates with improved typing speed and accuracy. Not only do you need to commence to practice lessons, you also should find games that you enjoy which will help you practice more regularly. Today prior to Dance Mat Typing Lesson 10 you are going to play typing exercises that will strengthen your ability to locate keys easily, type full words quickly, and increase accuracy of letters typed correctly. Third Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1Today we are going to review spreadsheets by completing an overview of our spreadsheets flipchart and vocabulary terms.
Afterwards you will use data complete a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel. I have attached a spreadsheet for you to download below. All of the instructions are within the spreadsheet. I will explain and model for you how I followed the directions in order to complete the spreadsheet and make a bar graph of the data I entered. Once finished save the file in your folder. World wide event!Students around the world will be participating in an event called the Hour of Code. In our time together you will learn how sites, games, and digital content that you love came to be. We will create "code" or direct messages to our computers instructing what we like to see on the computer. Whether you want a character to skip and jump, or a game to be played by using the arrow keys or letters is completely up to your direction and "coding". Let the fun begin!

Week 3This six weeks we will be entering data using Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets and graphs from our results. We will use a flipchart to review key vocabulary. I will model for you how to create a basic spreadsheet with the directions on the right ---------------------------------->. You will then use your data to create a graph.

Week 4
1. Open a spreadsheet.
2. In cell A1, type Spelling Words. 3. In cell B1, type Nouns. (a person, place, or thing) 4. In cell C1, type Verbs. (an action word) 5. In cell D1, type Adjectives (describes a noun) 6. In cell E1 type Adverbs. (describes a verb) 7. Beginning with cell A3 type the following spelling words: dark, small, chair, horse, desk, throw, snake, table, perfectly, shark, running. 8. In cell B2 write the number of nouns there are. 9. In cell C2 write the number of verbs. 10. In cell D2 write the number of adjectives. 11. In cell E2 write the number of adverbs. 12. Highlight cells B1-E2 and click the insert tab. ** Decide if you want to make a bar graph or pie chart with your information. |
Week 5
You have learned how to access your Google Classroom accounts. Soon, you will be receiving assignments, updates, and school information from Mr. Avery, Coach Myers, myself, and your teachers within your accounts. Today I will show yoy how to join each class. At home you can access your accounts by going to classroom.google.com.
Afterwards, you will login to myOn which we used last year for digital online reading. You will complete a Lexile reading assessment if required. You may then access your library to save books to read for later, read, and take assessments. Attempt to increase the amount of time that you spend on myON. It is a resource that will be available throughout the remainder of the year on various platforms (Android, iPad, Chromebooks, and computers). Directions for assignment: HERE |

Follow these steps to edit your Microsoft Word Poem:
1. Highlight, then center the title. 2. Make the title 18 pt. font. 3. Make the last word in each line bold. 4. Make the last line in each stanza italicized. 5. Change every word “the” to red. 6. Type your name at the bottom of the poem, beneath the author’s name. 7. Highlight, then underline the title. 8. Save the document in your folder (see how to video). Name the file edit. |
Week 4Today you will take the middle of the year iStation assessment. Your teachers will soon see what great progress you've made this year!
When you are finished you may play any of the games if you have completed last week's Microsoft Word assignment. If you have not completed "My Favorite Wild Animals" or "The Best of Texas" documents you must finish and save the documents in your folder once complete. Afterwards, you may go to free choice. |
Week 5This week you are going to take the middle of the year A.R. Star test. I have access to your usernames and passwords if you do not remember them.
I will model for you how to create a menu using Microsoft Word. You will use the tools to create a table with three columns. I will will also insert graphics, change the layout, text, and prices that are aligned within each column. Follow along with me to learn how to use the toolbar to create your document and save it in your folder. Be unique and think of your favorite type of cuisine. You must have: 1. A type of cuisine or food chosen 2. At least 3 pictures or graphics inserted 3. Prices for food 4. You must spelling & grammar check 5. Fourth Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1Over the following weeks we will be discussing Digital Citizenship, cyber safety, and online research strategies. We will begin by reviewing standards of digital citizenship using the following Prezi. After our whole group discussion you will work together in groups to make a "digital poster" of what being a DIGITAL CITIZEN means to you. You will use Flock Draw to collaborate with others and I will tell you which group to join. Week 2This six weeks we will be using internet research strategies, reviewing digital etiquette (Brainpop link to video- no login needed) guidelines, and access numerous communication tools online. We will also review the 9 elements of digital citizenship.
What kind of communication tools have you used before? How can communication tools aide in our learning? (Teacher: Use the flipchart so that students can write down social communication tools they currently use. Afterwards FILE>save as>Wed, Thurs, or Fri for the three days I'm gone.) The sites provided in this Symbaloo will give you the ability to choose a person of interest along with factual information about their contributions. You will use the attached document to write the information below. Week 1
Continue from last week... You have been researching about famous Texans in social studies. This week you will input information about their lives on readwritethink.org's online trading card.
You may have collected information or may need to gather more. You will use InstaGrok and other resources below to access more information about your famous Texan. I will show you how to collect and input their contributions to Texas onto the trading card. I will also show you how to save the document so that your teacher will have access to it. Week 2
KThis week we will use boolean searches. They allow you to combine words and phrases into search engines to retrieve documents from searchable databases. You will use a webmix (below) created on Symbaloo.com filled with great resources for online research. Some sources contain facts (which are great) and others contain opinions. Today you will create a timeline about significant figures in history. You will need to research information about the subjects and enter the events of that persons life in chronological order. You will use Read, Write, Think Timeline. Find factual information about either person below and add it to your timeline. See the video to learn how. Today you will use the information provided in the video to answer questions on the embedded document. You will view the video below whole group. Cloud storage is accessible from any device. This is a better option than saving files to the M drive because your assignments will be accessible beyond the walls of Charlotte Anderson. Survey- What topic would you like for your next spreadsheet?
Week 4This week we will be using your survey results to create surveys of interest to you. I will give a blank table for you to collect data from 10 classmates about their likes, interests, birthdays, etc. Once your data has been collected on paper you will input into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and sort your data in alphabetical order.
I hope that you learn some new things about your classmates through this process. :) Survey Results: HERE Students: Use the topics given by yourself and others fourth graders to complete your table. Write 5 topics (things you'd want to know) at the top of your table. Write 5 students names you would like to ask about all 5 topics. Ask around. You will then follow my directions in Edmodo. Through this you will learn how to insert files and documents into your backpack, edit your profile, add information to your calendar, and much more. Sixth Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1Today we will start by reviewing the presentation software Microsoft Power Point.
You will plan a presentation using a storyboard. I will model for you how to use the storyboard to create a presentation about career choices of interest. Once your story board is complete you will begin your presentation by choosing your slide design and inputting information if time permits. You will save your work and story board in your folder and Edmodo backpack to continue on next class period. It is honestly never to soon to think about what you want to be when you grow up. The classes that you take and interests you choose now will prepare you for that job!
Today you are going to use the story boards you created during last class to make your Power Point Presentation. I hope that we will have the opportunity to present them to the class so that others eyes can be opened to how many careers you have to pick from. CLASS LESSON VIDEO Each career will need to be on a separate slide containing: 1. Title/ Career Name 2. 3 Bullets about the job 3. 1 Bullet about the education required to get the job.
