First Six Weeks

We will be using a website called Nearpod to complete a digital citizenship lesson. You will be required to follow along with me. Occassionaly you will come across a question or assessment while we are working through the lesson. You will need to make sure that you follow along and that you do not get ahead of the group. Week 1Welcome back to school! I am so glad to have you in my class this year. My name is Ms. Clayton and you will learn so much about technology and computers in my class.
Today we will talk about my classroom, rules, procedures, and expectations. I will tell you about myself and I would like to learn about each of you. We will play an interesting ice breaker to help. Classroom Procedures Photo Source |
Week 2Today we will review parts of the computer and the Mansfield Acceptable Use Policy. The Acceptable Use Policy is very important and aides in keeping you safe online. Our class rules apply when online and an adult must be asked if you question a website or person online.
Students will use the desktop cloning program Splashtop in order to label each part of the computer from our class iPad via Popplet. Parts of the Computer Quiz: Here |
Week 3I can identify parts of the computer by labeling each part. We will match vocab words to pictures of parts of the computer.
Today you will practice you mouse skills by using your mouse to click, drag, and release in a Hook the Fish game. You will also visit the "Growing With Technology" site. It provides a read out loud glossary of technology terms we will use, keyboarding practice, and a time machine of past devices we used before technology. |

Second Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1Today I will introduce graphics software Tux Paint. Model using tuxpaint in order to illustrate thoughts or ideas. We will discuss vocabulary like graphic software, print, graphics, resize, clipart/stamps, drawing tools. You will listen to Bad Case of Stripes story online. Independent Practice: You will illustrate a picture of a character with a Bad Case of Stripes using the Tux Paint software.

Week 2Today I will introduce the First in Math website and games. You will receive your login information and learn how games are played. We will discuss the signifance of stickers and benefits of playing these spectacular games. I can't wait to see how well you do!
We will watch game tutorial videos in order to see how we will get started. You will play and begin to earn stickers. Have fun! |
Week 3 (last)Today we will use the Tux Paint graphics software to illustrate what you would wish for if you could wish for anything as the character Tricia did in My Rotten Read Headed Older Brother.
We will watch and listen to "My Rotten Red Headed Older Brother" on storylineonline.net. I will model how to use Tux Paint tools to draw and close once I am done. Photo Source |
Week 3 Today you will use the graphics software Tux Paint to create a graphic organizer by topic or theme. Together we still sort like objects and I will model how to create a web to sort organize those objects. We will discuss: How can this be useful to you? What other information could you organize in this manner?

Week 4Doesn't if feel wonderful to be special. You see, we all are special in our very own way. Today we will watch the Storyline Online read aloud of The Rainbow Fish. I will demonstrate how to use the Ocean scape background to create a unique setting from The Rainbow Fish. You will then create your own ocean illustration based upon The Rainbow Fish.

Week 6Today I will be reading a digital iPad version of one of my all time favorite books as a child. I will model for you how to use the graphics software Microsoft Paint to create a book cover. You will use the tools and drawing area to create a book cover of your all time favorite children's story.

Third Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1This week we will complete "Welcome to the Internet" lessons 1 & 2. We will practice identifying and using hyperlinks, accessing passwords, and drop down menus. Welcome to the web will reinforce cyber safety by showing appropriate ways and places to enter passwords and information into fields.

world wide event!Students around the world will be participating in an event called the Hour of Code. In our time together you will learn how sites, games, and digital content that you love came to be. We will create "code" or direct messages to our computers instructing what we like to see on the computer. Whether you want a character to skip and jump, or a game to be played by using the arrow keys or letters is completely up to your direction and "coding". Let the fun begin! Week 2This six weeks we will be learning about the world wide web. I will introduce various web browsers and vocabulary associated with each. Today I will model features of Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, and show you Safari from my Apple computer. We will watch "Internet (safety) for kids" and discuss your experiences with the www.

Week 3Today we will complete Welcome to the Web Lesson 3, "Staying Safe Online".This week we will learn more about internet safety methods. We will watch this Brain Pop movie and answer questions related to the internet safety tips.
After completion you will complete the password rap game (at the very bottom of this webpage) to collect all of the important pieces of information which help you protect your password. |
Week 4Today you will take the middle of the year iStation assessment. Your teacher will soon see what great progress you've made this year!
When you are finished you may play any of the games that we have played below or games on the free choice page. |
Week 5Today we will continue Welcome to the Web Lesson 5 whole group. We will discuss how to use search engines online.
You will learn how to use the search engine Google to search for today's games. You will type "Time Games" into the search bar. Click on the first link in order to find the games for the day. >> Google << |
Fourth Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1This week I will be introducing the Microsoft Word software called Excel. We will use a flipchart to learn vocabulary needed to create documents in this program. You will learn how to add data to cells, rows, and columns. I will model how to find secret spreadsheet messages by following directions using this document.

Week 2Begin by opening Typing Instructor on your computers to allow proper time for the program to load. (Substitute Teacher: Students will use Dance Mat Typing instead. Have them click on the photo above to get to the website. They will complete Level 1, stage 1 and 2.) This six weeks we will also learn about keyboarding (how to type on your keyboard correctly). Today we will practice keyboarding posture. You will sit with , correct posture, your feet on the floor, wrists up, and eyes on the screen. Week 3This week you will learn how to make a picture in as spreadsheet. I will review vocabulary: cell, row, column, and table. I will model how to use the fill bucket to color in the cells. I will give you a list of cells to color in and the colors for each. You will color each cell with the paint bucket to make a picture. Once complete you will have the opportunity to walk around the room to see others spreadsheet pictures.

Week 4This week we will use a Power Point to review keyboarding and typing using the home row keys. You will complete Dance Mat Typing Lesson 1 Stages 2 and 3. If you are prompted to repeat a lesson it may be because you had multiple errors and did not meet the speed requirement set. However, if you have to repeat the lesson remember practice makes you better and it's Ok.
Once complete play typing games below to practice and improve your keyboarding skills. Take your time! It will get easier the more you practice. Teacher: Review keyboarding expectations from PPT above. Note: the timing is fast for each slide so view them individually vs presentation mode. Versus typing instructor which requires a username and password to login. Have students click on "Dance Mat Typing" Level 1 Stage 1 and Stage 2 at the very bottom of the first grade page. |
Week 5This week in technology applications we will continue practicing keyboarding skills. I will be looking for correct posture, arm and hand position, and home row keys finger placement. Today you will practice typing in Typing Agent.
You will open the spreadsheet to enter data about missing teeth. I will model for you how to download/open your spreadsheet to begin entering data. Once you have entered all data use the graph to answer questions about your findings. Graph |
Week 6
Today we will be creating criteria to use to collect data from classmates. You will have the opportunity to ask 10 people about your criteria.
Whole group, I will teach you how to input your data into a spreadsheet, how to define your gridlines, and how to graph your findings. |
Fifth Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1This six weeks we will use a flipchart to review word processing software vocabulary (menu, toolbar, file, click and drag, font, and folder) and tools. I will demonstrate creating a document using Microsoft Word. You will see I type uppercase letters and punctuation marks.
Today you will be copying sentences from the promethean board to write a Who Am I poem. Ensure that you use correct capitalization and punctutation. |
Week 2This week we will review the Microsoft Word toolbar.
This week you will describe the color of the items you see in the document. I will show you how to write after each piece of clipart. You will then edit your color word to match the color of the object. Make sure that when completing your document you follow these guidelines: 1. Start your work by writing your name. Capitalize the first letter. 2. Begin each sentence with a capital letter by holding the shift key. 3. Select or highlight a word before you edit it. 4. If you make a mistake just click the "undo" arrow to fix it. |
Week 3You will open the document below to change the format of the text, perform spell check, and enter clip art at the bottom to match the poem.
Today I will model (my friend poem) how to spell check, format, and insert clipart into the document. |
Week 4Today you will be using Microsoft Word to create your own sentences. Once you complete your sentence, using correct capitalization (shift key) and punctuation you will insert clip art to accompany it.
I will model for you and review how to insert clip art and spell check your document once you finish. We will open the document below as a template for our work. Good luck! |
Week 5This week you will be combining all of the tools we have used while learning about Microsoft Word. I will model how to complete each sentence using words provided in the word bank.
You will suggest words for me to add to the word bank before you begin the assignment at your computer. Once you complete each sentence you will spell check your work and insert a picture in each box to match the sentence it belongs with. Assignment Video HERE |
Sixth Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1Today you will be writing your own Mother's Day card to your mom using Microsoft Word. If you would prefer to you can write the card to another lovely and helpful lady in your life. I will model for you how to create your card using the template below.
You will print your document, then complete your card by coloring the artwork when you return to class. I must read and approve your document before you print. |
Week 2This six weeks you will continue to practice typing using the home row keys, correct finger placement, and good posture. We will together look at the following pictures to determine proper and improper keyboarding techniques. We will also review home row key typing using Typing Web Keyboarding. Week 3We will use Peter's Online Typing Course to practice left hand and right hand home row key typing. Today you will continue to practice typing keeping these things in mind.

Week 5Today you will continue to practice proper keyboarding techniques while making a summer clip art collage. Together we will brainstorm a list of summer words. At your computer you will insert an image and label the image underneath. At the bottom of your page write your summer plans by completing the sentence.

Week 6I have loved having each and every one of you this year! I am sad to see the year come to and end, but excited for what next year will bring.
