First Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1Welcome back to school! I am so glad to have you in my class this year. My name is Ms. Clayton and you will learn so much about technology and computers in my class. I am so glad to see all of my old friends and new! This year you will learn many things about technology, multimedia, digital citizenship, internet, communication, spreadsheets, keyboarding, and computer operations and navigation.
Today we will talk about my classroom, rules, procedures, and expectations. I will tell you about myself and I would like to learn about each of you. We will play an interesting ice breaker to help. I am so glad to see all of my old friends and new! Classroom Procedures Photo Source |

Week 4 I will show you how to take the iStation Test during class today. You will begin your test. When you finish you can play any of the Second grade free choice games.

Week 5 Today, I can demonstrate appropriate keyboarding techniques for operating alphabet, numeric, and punctuation keys.
Your ability to type without looking at the keyboard will improve as you continue to practice. Before your lesson try to place all of the letters and numbers on the keyboard in the game below. Try your best not to look, but look when needed. Students will test their typing skills and practice Typing Club typing lessons 2 and 3 to improve upon using the home keys regularly without looking at the keyboard. |
Week 6Today you will be navigating the Start menu and opening, using, and closing programs properly. You will use & learn about the tools within the Tux Paint program & Tux Math programs.

Second Six Weeks Lessons

Today I will introduce correct keyboarding skills and posture. I will use a flipchart to label and discuss components of a keyboard.
You will practice keyboarding through Typing Club lesson 7 for 15 minutes. I will demonstrate logging into Typing Club and accessing the practice lessons. I can statements: " I can use appropriate keyboarding terminology in reference to basic hardware, software, and virtual environments." "I can demonstrate appropriate keyboarding techniques for operating the alpha, numeric, and symbol keys." First in Math is available! Log in today to challenge yourself. |
Week 2Today I will review touch typing expectations and model typing a lesson using typing club. Your focus will be on posture, accuracy, and improving upon your first WPM earned. You will complete up to Typing Club lesson 14.

First in Math- For those of you who haven't started using first in math I will share how to log in the alternative username and password and few tips for getting started. Week 3Your typing goal in 2nd grade is to type at 10 WPM. Today your focus while completing typing lessons in to maintain an accuracy of at least 90% while improving on your WPM with each lesson accomplished. You will practice up to lessons 21 (twice each) for 15 minutes. Once complete play any of the typing lessons below for the next 15 minutes.

Week 4Typing Made Easy Video
Do you ever feel like taking a short cut? There's normally a faster way to do just about anything. This rings true on the computer as well. Today you will continue to practice keyboarding strategies when using Typing Instructor, but I will also introduce shortcut key strokes (flipchart) on the keyboard. When possible use these keystrokes to add to your productivity.

Week 6Review time: An Input/Output devices flipchart will be used.
This week we will continue to properly practice typing on the keyboard. 1. We will sit up straight. 2. Place both feet on the ground. 3. Avoid looking at our keyboard. 4. Third Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1Introducing Spreadsheets (flipchart)! This six weeks you will learn how to use spreadsheets to collect, analyze, and organize data. Today I will introduce important vocabulary words used in creating and reading information show on spreadsheets. I will model how to open spreadsheet software, Microsoft Excel, and how to create and save on your computer.

world wide event!Students around the world will be participating in an event called the Hour of Code. In our time together you will learn how sites, games, and digital content that you love came to be. We will create "code" or direct messages to our computers instructing what we like to see on the computer. Whether you want a character to skip and jump, or a game to be played by using the arrow keys or letters is completely up to your direction and "coding". Let the fun begin!

Week 4Today we will continue learning about spreadsheets and Microsoft Excel.
Afterwards you will input data to create a spreadsheet from a menu at an ice cream shop. Use the template below in order to complete the information. I will show you what your table will look like as you complete and finish it. When creating the menu make sure that you type all information into a separate cell. Week 5Last spring you may have been introduced to an online reading program called MyOn. MyOn gives access to thousands of digital books related to your interest in varied genres. Each book should be on your appropriate reading level and contains on assessment for understanding.
myOn is available on the iPad, Chromebook, and Android devices. Today you will login to your account for 30 minutes of activity. You may be prompted to take a Lexile reading assessment or to choose the next book in your library. |
Previous 4th Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1This six weeks we will be learning about utilizing word processing programs and vocabulary. Today I will introduce Microsoft Word and vocabulary used when using the program. I will also model editing a document in the Microsoft Word video lesson. You will practice editing using the SRA video learning module. Week 2This week we are going to review word processing and I will review vocabulary words (using a flip chart) you must know to begin using word processing programs.
Today I will model how to use Microsoft Word to type of short poem. You will copy the attached poem as shown. Practice typing poem<--- Once complete save your file in your folder on the desktop. |
Week 3Today we will continue to review highlighting text, changing fonts, and formatting in Microsoft Word.
This week you will learn about Word Processing components such as tab, columns, highlight, edit, font, and color. I will show you how to edit the uploaded document. Week 4
Today we are going to use Microsoft Word to write a paragraph about "The Oldest Person You Know". I will model for you how to use the program to write the document. You will learn how to use tools in Microsoft Word to edit spelling and grammar. You will use the toolbar to highlight, change the font, size, and style of the text once complete.

Fourth Six Weeks
Week 1This week I will introduce communication tools and internet vocabulary. Today's vocabulary include online, internet, browsers, search engines, safety rules, and copyright laws.
The internet is a worldwide network of computers that use a network to allow the transmission or sharing of data. We will watch Faux-Paws Adventures in the Internet and discuss best internet safety practices. |
Week 2What does digital security mean to you? Last week you made electronic posters defining safety tips online. This week we will discuss digital citizenship. Teacher: Show the digital security glogster -these things make up digital citizenship. We will watch the Netsafe Episode: Be Kind Online.

Week 3This week we will continue to learn about internet safety by discussing our internet footprint or the trail you leave behind as you visit places and download online. Have you ever wondered what others think about you? They learn about the kind of person you are by the way you treat others, how you talk, and your actions. Your digital footprint gives others a perception of you as well. Your digital trail can be helpful or hurtful depending on how you use your time online.

Week 4This week you will be performing an internet web quest. Throughout this web quest you will find lessons on internet safety practices we have discussed in the past weeks. You will click on the link below to access the web quest and download the document below to write your answers. Once complete you will save your document in your folder.

Week 4
This week you are going to learn how to use all components or parts or Edmodo through following along with my Scavenger Hunt. You will watch each video in the playlist below one at a time. You will then follow my directions in Edmodo. Through this you will learn how to insert files and documents into your backpack, edit your profile, add information to your calendar, and much more.
If you ever have questions about Edmodo you should be able to return to the video that can answer the question for you.
Once complete with the treasure hunt. See the spreadsheet playlist below. You will follow directions to edit the spreadsheet linked below. Once complete save your spreadsheet in your backpack in Edmodo. I will model how to come the document and saving in Edmodo. The video may be accessed for further questions.

Fifth Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1Today I will introduce multimedia presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint. You will learn to access and change font size and color, insert clip art, use the pencil, bucket fill tool, eraser, color palette and graphics. Once introduced to the multimedia presentations you will begin to brainstorm ideas for creating a multimedia book report. I'm excited for you!
We will watch "Enemy Pie" written by Derek Munson and illustrated by Tara Calahan King. Afterwards you will brainstorm the information you'll write on each slide of your Power Point. Open the document below to write information for each slide. S&L Photo Source |
Week 2Today you will begin to input information into your Power Point presentation. You will use our notes at the end of the powerpoint if needed. Each slide needs to include information about the story "Enemy Pie". We will review the story elements together.

Week 3
Today we will be opening Power Point files saved in your folders on the M Drive. You will learn to insert clipart using Microsoft Power Point clip art, edit font attributes, fill white space, and slide animation. You will view you presentation in presentation format to see your altered affects.
You will then save your presentation and place it in your Edmodo backpack. Open your file from within Edmodo to get started today. Video- How to complete today's lesson. EDMODO |

You will be creating a Power Point about yourself today. This week we will work to create each slide, input information, insert clip art representing typed information, and editing font to suit your liking. If time permits you will also add transitions and animations to each slide. I will model for you how I created my "About Ms. Clayton" Power Point. To begin today's assignment you will open a new presentation in Power Point on the desktop. You will save your work in Edmodo as "About ______" Your Goals Today: 1.) Choose a Slide Design 2.) Sixth Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1This six weeks you will learn about the parts, resources, and build capabilities of the Lego We Do kits.
Today we will use a Power Point to learn about parts such as motors, axles, and gears that will be used to construct a working build. To test you knowledge you will complete the Microsoft Word worksheet attached below. I will model how you will use the line tool to connect the picture with each corresponding vocabulary word. Afterwards, you save it in your Edmodo backpack. |
Week 2This week many classes will be taking the End of the Year iStation Assessments while others have done so in their rooms.

Week 3This week you are going to build and program the Lego WeDo Spinning Top. We have discussed how our builds will be completed, but here a few things to remember.
1. Stay in your assigned area, as not to mix your kit with others. 2. One partner pulls parts while they other assembles and then you will switch turns. 3. Build on the lid not on the carpet so that parts are not lost. 4. When disassembling organize the kit just as it was found. Photo Source |

Have you reached your typing goal of 10WPM? If so keep practicing so that you can exceed it and type even faster. Today we will review the home row keys. You will complete 10 minutes keyboarding practice on THIS GAME. This combines all of the letters on the home row. Use your pinky to press the enter key after you type each letter combination. Then you will practice home row typing for 10 minutes using THIS GAME. Afterwards, practice keyboarding for 10 minutes using the site below.
