Welcome to my class! My name is Ms. Clayton. Today we get to learn about each other, technology classroom rules, procedures, and expectations. I'm so glad to have you in my class this year!

Day 2
Welcome back! Today you will be creating folders, completing student inventories, and familiarizing yourself with our required online accounts in preparation for the school year. Please complete the tasks in the order listed below.

Day 3
I am so thankful that Charlotte Anderson is filled with so many amazing citizens and kids with character. What makes you a good citizen?
Today we will compare responsibilities of offline and online communities. We will reflect on characteristics of good citizens along with responsibilities that we all share when using social media tools like Google Classroom. We will also construct solutions to digital problems. Enter the NearPod code on the board to join me in our lesson. |
Day 4
Hello everyone! Today you will be creating accessing your Google Drive and Google Classroom accounts. Google Drive has online storage (cloud storage) that you can access anywhere. Google Classroom is a collaboration tool for teachers and students. Google Classroom will give you paperless access to assignments, grades, and creativity tools.
1. You will reset your passwords. 2. Login to Google Drive. 3. Open Google Classroom. 4. Join your classes. 5. Reply to the assigned post. 6. ALWAYS log out of Google when finished. See links for both Google Drive and Google Classroom on the homepage. |
Day 5
Today you will begin a collaborative assignment using Google Slides. I will assess you overall technology skill level as you gather content from research tools, create and edit a slide, and complete a presentation about Native Americans in Texas with a group of your peers.
We are going on a journey into the past. We will visit the very early days of the United States and learn about some of the Native Americans that lived in Texas. Each group will explore the internet websites that I have selected and learn about the Native American ways of food, clothing, shelter, and tools. Each group will create a google slide to organize and present what they have learned. Access your assignment from your Google Classroom Account. 2nd Six Weeks
Day 1
Today you will learn the essential skills which make keyboarding important. The keyboarding techniques shared will assist you in productivity, speed, and accuracy when typing. I will use a keyboarding skills resource to model proper typing techniques.
Each class period will be dedicated to keyboarding practice lessons on Typing Club. Practice makes great improvement!
I will review Typing Agent expectations, goals, and progress monitoring. You will practice keyboarding lessons in Unit 1. Take the Pre-Assessment here. Share your current WPM with Ms. Clayton in the Google Classroom post.

Days 2 &3
Today we will continue practicing proper keyboarding techniques. I will be observing to ensure that you use correct finger positioning, posture, and home row typing skills.
You will practice typing agent lesson training for 10 minutes using Typing agent. Afterwards, you will create a Google Slideshow about Texas landmarks and symbols. I will demonstrate how to use the resources and access the assignment in Google Classroom. |
Day 4
Today we will continue practicing proper keyboarding techniques. I will be observing to ensure that you use correct finger positioning, posture, and home row typing skills.
You will also begin a research assignment about Famous Texas Explorers. Together, we will watch a brief video on the topic. You will access the assignment and resources in Google Classroom. You will use the resources provided to create a newsletter from the perspective of the explorer, written to his friends or family back home. Writing from his voice or perspective, describe what you found when you arrived.

3rd Six Weeks
Day 1
What is Coding? This six weeks we will learn how coding relates to writing steps that make our computer programs and applications work. We will write algorithms that detail exactly how to perform each step in order to make something work. Before writing directions we will learn how to use symbols to instruct characters and build games throughout this six weeks.

Day 2
Kids can code! Watch this video of 12 year old developer, Thomas Suarez. He is an app developer with apps available in the App Store for iOS devices. He was interested in computers and pushed himself to learn more.
You are being exposed to web applications, programs, and tools that will give you skills in order to make your ideas and dreams reality. You can be like Thomas! Day 3
Join millions of creators around the world as they learn to code in a real programming language and watch their commands come to life by drawing a sequence of 13 pictures with code. Learn along the way about video game art history from Pong and other retro games through 8-bit art and Minecraft, weaving together computer science with art, history, and storytelling. Coding is fun, right? We have been using websites and applications which teach the concepts of coding all while allowing us to create scripts using blocks of instructions. Today we will take a closer look at the magic that is computer programming. You will write lines of code in JavaScript and HTML coding languages. Why do we code? Computers can't think for itself. We code using words and numbers. Today we will use the Hour of Code website and I will give your usernames and passwords so that you can begin coding lessons on Code.org.

Today you will create an account on Scratch using the link below. You may choose a step by step tutorial to follow, however you must share you final results with the class.

4th Six Weeks
Week 1Internet Research
This six weeks you will conduct various internet research projects. You will learn how to best choose sources based upon reliability and content. Today I will provide 5 requirements for researching responsibly. You will complete the internet scavenger hunt below. Follow all rules and guidelines to obtain and source information ethically. Week 2Famous Texans Research
Today you will create an online trading card using Read, Write, Think.org. You will use the Symbaloo to access resources.The primary resource is the Famous Texans site. If students need supplemental information students may search the Famous Texans Web Mix or use the Kiddle search engine. You will save the PDF of their trading card and share with their teacher in Google Classroom. When finished you will also use Padlet to share 2 significant facts about your famous Texan with their class. |
Week 3Today you will log into Google Classroom to complete the assignment from Week 2. See all instructions posted in the assignment link in Google Classroom. Click open and continue. Use the resources provided as directed by Ms. Clayton.

Today you will use Storybird to create stories online. You will create, edit, and share your stories with your class. Read and comment appropriate responses to share your thoughts or feelings about their stories in a positive way. Use Google Classroom to access Storybird and share the links to your stories. |
Week 2
Access Assignment in Google Classroom. Create a digital Dream Board.
Think about...What do you enjoy? What would you like to learn to do? Where would you like to travel? Where have you been? Where do you dream of going? What kind of person do you aspire to be? What do you want to do (career) when you grow up? Who do you love? What pets do you have or want to have? What academic goals do you have? You will use Google Slides to illustrate these goals and share with classmates. |
6th Six Weeks
Weeks 1 & 2
Today you will visit Google Art and Culture’s virtual tour of George Washington’s home in Monticello. Afterwards, use Powtoons to create a presentation from information learned about the home and life of our 1st President, George Washington. This video will activate prior knowledge about the life and presidency of George Washington. How to use Powtoons: video Use their Google accounts to sign up/sign into Powtoons to create the presentation. |
Week 3
Today we will start by reviewing the presentation software Microsoft Power Point.
You will plan a presentation using a storyboard. I will model for you how to use the storyboard to create a presentation about career choices of interest.
Once your story board is complete you will begin your presentation by choosing your slide design and inputting information if time permits. You will save your work and story board in your folder and Edmodo backpack to continue on next class period.
