Welcome back! Today you will be creating folders, completing student inventories, and familiarizing yourself with our required online accounts in preparation for the school year. Please  complete the tasks in the order listed below.
1. Create a folder on the desktop as directed.
2. Complete THIS online questionnaire.
3. Begin parts of the computer review by completing the activities to the right.

Today we will compare responsibilities of offline and online communities. We will reflect on characteristics of good citizens. We will also construct solutions to digital problems.

Hello everyone! Today you will be creating accessing your Google Drive and Google Classroom accounts. Google Drive has online storage (cloud storage) that you can access anywhere.  Google Classroom is a collaboration tool for teachers and students. Google Classroom will give you paperless access to assignments, grades, and creativity tools.

1. You will reset your passwords.
2. Login to Google Drive.
3. Open Google Classroom.
4. Join your classes.
5. Reply to the assigned post.
6. ALWAYS log out of Google when finished.

Today we will review skills using Google Slides to create a science tools dictionary. 

You will access your assignment in Google Classroom. You will insert images, add text, and edit information as needed to complete the Google Slideshow of science tools.

Part 2: You will create a Digital Super Hero comic. Your superhero must encounter a problem (ie: inappropriate device usage or students who choose not to follow digital safety rules). Your superhero has to find a solution to this problem in order to correct the behavior. Inform them of the problem and a solution that saves the day.

You will sign into Google Classroom to use the Powtoon App. I will model how to create a superhero presentation.

Today you will learn the essential skills which make keyboarding important. The keyboarding techniques shared will assist you in productivity, speed, and accuracy when typing. I will use a keyboarding skills resource to model proper typing techniques. 

Each class period will be dedicated to keyboarding practice lessons on Typing Club. Practice makes great improvement! 

I will review Typing Agent expectations, goals, and progress monitoring. You will practice keyboarding lessons in Unit 1. Take the Pre-Assessment here. Share your current WPM with Ms. Clayton in the Google Classroom post.

Today we will continue practicing proper keyboarding techniques. I will be observing to ensure that you use correct finger positioning, posture, and home row typing skills. 

You will practice typing agent lesson training for 10 minutes using Typing agent.

Afterwards, you will create a Google Slideshow about our three branches of government. I will demonstrate how to use the resources and access the assignment in Google Classroom.

Keyboarding & Word Processing Continued
Today we will continue practicing keyboarding skills. Monitor yourself as you type. Are you reaching your goals? Is your accuracy above 90%? Can you challenge yourself beyond the 20 WPM typing goal?

Afterwards, you will use Read, Write, Think.org to practice word processing skills. We will watch the "Write a Personal Narrative" video. You will then complete a cube story using the Read, Write, Think Cube Creator. Save your work in documents and share in Google Classroom as directed.

3rd Six Weeks

Day 1

What is Coding? This six weeks we will learn how coding relates to writing steps that make our computer programs and applications work. We will write algorithms that detail exactly how to perform each step in order to make something work. Before writing directions we will learn how to use symbols to instruct characters and build games throughout this six weeks.

We will use steps in algorithm to instruct our classmates on how to dance.

Kids can code! Watch this video of 12 year old developer, Thomas Suarez. He is an app developer with apps available in the App Store for iOS devices. He was interested in computers and pushed himself to learn more.

You are being exposed to web applications, programs, and tools that will give you skills in order to make your ideas and dreams reality. You can be like Thomas! Today we will continue to explore Scratch to learn programming in a fun and imaginative way.

Coding is fun, right? We have been using websites and applications which teach the concepts of coding all while allowing us to create scripts using blocks of instructions.

Today we will take a closer look at the magic that is computer programming. You will write lines of code in JavaScript and HTML coding languages. These are only two varying languages amongst many but you will learn how vital making specific and correct algorithms are when coding.

This week you will begin a research project about cultural holidays. We are very familiar with holidays our own cultures typically celebrate, but there are many holidays around the world celebrated by cultures that we may not be as knowledgeable about. You will use Google Slides to combine  presentations.

5th Six Weeks

Week 1

  1. Students will go to http://www.buildyourwildself.com/ and build their “wild self”. (Have students choose background first.)   Students will save their pictures to the desktop by going to “print your wild self”, then right clicking on the image for a “save as” option.  Once saved, students will take a Gallery Walk to view others “wild self”. If possible, print pictures for next lesson.
  2. Using Google Drive students will work collaboratively with a partner to type a paragraph to describe their wild self creations.

Week 2

Today you will collaborate with a partner to create the food chain of an animal. You will use Canva to illustrate and share the details of the food chain. Canva is accessible through your Google account login information. See Google Classroom for more details.

Today we create a budget using Microsoft Excel. Excel is a spreadsheet program which allows you to collect and organize data/ information. Everyone needs to learn to budget. Today you will use the resources provided to create a budget based on real life expenses. Access your document from Google Classroom.

Today you will use a poetry pattern to write a poem. Choose from the sites below. Afterwards, use ABCYa Animate to create an animation of your project.

6th Six Weeks

Week 1

In continuation of the acknowledgement of National Poetry Month, which is in April, you will create a Diamonte Poem. It is a poem which follows structural and grammatical rules to form the shape of a diamond. You will also complete animations and Haikus that were not completed last class period. Turn in all assignments in Google Classroom.

Week 3

Today you will be creating a Power Point Presentation about zoo animals. You will use the linked SAN DIEGO ZOO WEBSITE in order to find four animals to research. Once you choose your four animals you will write 3 facts about each animal on every slide. Afterwards, insert clip art, edit, add transitions, and animations to make your presentation complete. I will model how to complete the assignment.
